Shelly, you are a bright star in our universe. Congratulations on finally achieving the age of maturity, at which time your level of credibility increases and everyone (including your children) believe everything you say. Won't that be wonderful!? (And unbelievable!)

FIFTY IS NIFTY

Whow! You made it too the top of the hill like some of us already have. You are everything you love so much.(A little poetic verse here) You are sunshine (on a cloudy day) You are sunflowers growing wild in the fields, you are smiling no matter the weather. You make things happen around you and you make others happy. You listen, you feel, you help and you love all. You are the optimist when things are looking down. You cheer us up and you make us feel important. You have such a great span of friends from all walks of life and that says alot about who you are. Thank you for all the good memories, 6:00am, the bike rides, the hikes, the walks, the bagels, the parties, the birthdays, the hot tubbing, the snow shoeing, the skiing, the mashed potatoes, the trips, the eats, the shopping, the sunning, the swimming, the diet cokes with lime and more. We all love you Shelly! You are one that appreciates the little things in life. You have a great family and terrific friends and how about that hubby...Tony. He knows how to do it up right. (Love the Barbie) Later baby, later Love Becky

WOW! Really!?!?!?! Can I really be considered a friend of someone as cool as you? I am soooooo honored.
Happy Birthday BABE!

dear shelly,

happy 50th! may your tenderness, love of life, and love for others bring you (and those of us around you) another 50! i have several memories of you and all the fun you inevitably bring along. the photo posted by lindsay of you standing in line behind the statues has me laughing hard right now, as it is vintage shelly. on another note, i have been the recipient of your tender heart several times over the years; a few of those times were especially difficult, and rather than staying away, you came right to me with kind words, your beautiful smile, and wrapped your arms around me. may you have a wonderful day and celebration. happy birthday, friend!

much love,

stacie sears

Yay Mom

Happy Birthday Mommeee! It's your youngest sonchild...

Thanks for being the best Mom I ever had. I can't imagine how you could be more wonderful. You've always been so supportive and accepting of me despite my faults and my crazier than Spencerness (actually forget that, Spencer is more crazy). I have always been able to depend on you when I needed help.

Some of my greatest memories were from my grade school days when I struggled with my math homework, you were always there to help me figure it out. You were so patient with me back then...what happened, huh? =) Haha jus keeding, you're such a super lady! And you're also apparently a mathematician.

I hope you have a very happy Birthday today and many many happy unbirtdays in the future!
I love you Mom!

P.S. Thanks for getting root beer and popsicles and chocolate milk and Cadbury cream eggs. Here's a puppy:

Dear Beautiful Shelly!

Happy happy birthday and yeah, funny joke that you are 50 cause you look like a teenager.. Mike and I wanted you to know how much we have loved our many adventures with you and Tony over the years. From a midnight ski to do the final “check out” for future wives, to waking up in the aftermath of a hurricane in Tahiti to just sitting and laughing about life-you have always been a constant delight. Life gets crazy and sometimes we’ll go months without seeing you, but we always seem to pick up where we left off with the old and new jokes and the feeling that we are with lifelong friends.
I remember the first time I met you so distinctly. I was just starting to date Mike and we saw you at a park sitting with your new born daughter. I remember Lindsey’s incredible, gigantic, beautiful, blue eyes and just remember how darling you were with her. Years later with all our kids almost grown, you are still the same funny, beautiful girl that I met that day.
So here’s to you on your big day! May you know how much you are loved by the Bourne’s. Years from now- when we turn 50 -we hope we’ll have the same lust for life and spark for living that you have always had! Thanks for all the happy moments we have shared, and all those that are ahead of us!!
We love and adore you, Mike and Judi Bourne
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHELLY!!!!!
I just want to let you know though I wish I was better about getting together, I really enjoy when we do and can always have great laughs and heart to heart chats. When I think of you and Teri Lynn, you guys were always the WAY cool cousins that we wanted to be like. Thanks for being a great role model (one of the privileges of being older and wiser). Hope you have a great day and enjoy yourself

50? Really? ......... Awesome. :)

Happy Birthday Shelly,

I find this a good time to tell you thank you for everything you do for me. You truly are a second mother to me. Thanks for all your patience, thoughtfulness, and home-welcoming you show towards me (especially since I'm over at your house more than my own....... ha.... in fact, I'm writing this very post in your home right now.) Anyways, thanks for everything. Happy Birthday!

Your neighbor, friend, and almost-near-son,

Christopher Cherrington

HAPPY 50th SHELLY! We all hope you celebrate big and enjoy the next 50 years! Thanks for being the wonderful gal that you are, and putting up with us always stealing Misty-what a sweet dog! We love being neighbors with you and your great fam! It's been so fun watching your kids grow into the amazing people that they are. You and Toni are the best-thanks for your great influence you have had on our kids over the years. We love you-Have a Wonderful Birthday. Love The Cherringtons.

Birthday Girl!!!

I hope you have a fantabulous birthday, Mom!
Thank you so much for always being so patient with me and my crazyness! I don't know what we would have done without your kindness and understanding; always "believing" me in elementary school when I pretended to be sick.

And then we would actually get sick getting plastered!

Good times ...
Anyway,
I love you and appreciate everything you have done for me. I only hope I can raise my kids as well as you did yours. Be happy and have a great day!!!
Your son,
Spencer

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Shelly,

I hope you are having a great birthday! Thank you for always being such a great mom! Thank you for raising such an amazing son. I can see so many of your great attributes in him. I have truly felt like one of your children and I thank you for that. You have always made me feel so special. You don't know how many times I have said to Spencer, "I want to be like your mom." You are such an amazing, optimistic, strong woman.
You are so much fun!!! I love that we can do anything from hiking in Havasupai...

to fly fishing...

...to riding 103 miles on our bikes.
I am looking forward to all the future adventures we will have together!!! Thanks for being so wonderful!! Have a Happy Birthday!!! I love you!
Love,
Amy

Now that you are 50, we wish you all the best.
After breakfast in the morning you may need a little rest!
You almost qualify for the senior citizen salad bar at the Sizzler down the street!
And the discount tickets you'll be able to get really can't be beat!
Don't be discouraged that you're getting old, you are still extremely fit.
Just start out slow then taper off and maybe watch T.V. and knit!
Have a great birthday Shell. Love, Mary Lee and Wid. You are the best!

The dreaded 50!!

Ohhh Noooo - it's almost here - the dreaded 50th birthday!!! But what have we to dread? You've created many memorable moments that you have shared with us. Just to mention a few favorite of mine.... skiing at PC with your newest best friend STEVE. My job became instantly easier after introducing my friend to my soon to be boss! The many fun travel adventures that we have had....dancing with Lon in Mazatlan (Help, Kirk, get me out of here!), playing in St. George, flying to Laguna for some tennis, no shopping, no eating - okay for all of it and lots of fun! Being a true friend when life takes a terrible turn. The many balls we have hit - the good ones and the many, many bad ones. There are roads we have yet to travel, so fear not the 50, but onward we go! I only hope to look half as good as you when my turn comes - it's a bit further down the road! You are a dear dear friend and I'm sorry I'm not there to celebrate the day with you -but looking forward to next week! Enjoy a beverage or two on me!! HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

love,

Lisa
Dear Shelly,

Happy Happy 50th Birthday.

Shelly, I am so delighted that you are finally 50, I am so glad that I am not turning 50! because by Amy's point of view, that is really old! Oh wait, I did that - a l o n g time ago!
You don't look a bit like an old boot, how nice it would be if we all looked like you do at any age!!!
You really are the greatest! I love that I can call you my friend. You are so kind, and a wonderful listening ear. Thank you so much for that. You can always put things in perspective for me.
It is true, we all want to be like Shelly. You are the best and everyone that knows you becomes a better person.

Who knew that when I lived across the street from you, oh so many years ago, that you would end up meeting and marrying little Tony Tingey, who lived in my neck of the woods, and we would work with each other. One of lifes' great gift to me.

Have a wonderful day, Shelly, no one deserves it more than you!
Love, Diane.
Shelly,
What can I say that hasn't already been said? We have been neighbors now for a long time and we have always loved the fact that our children all grew up as good friends! It was always so nice to be able to send them out the door without worrying when they were going to the Tingeys to play. Unlike the rest of us, you do not look a day older than when we first met. You not only look youthful, but you are young at heart in all that you do. No wonder you keep getting called to work in the Young Women's! I personally have fond memories of you when we took the YW/YM to Lake Powell. We definitely had a HOT time while we were down there! We hope your coming year will be as fulfilling and joyful as the past and we hope we'll be able to keep up with you over the next 50!
Love,
Connie and Mike Sorensen

Miss You! Love You! Have to Have You!

Happy 50th Birthday Shelly......Remember all the fun we had in Atlanta? It wasn't for very long, but the memories have lasted for 25 years now! Hey that is half your life....We love you and wish we lived closer. I have grandchildren the ages that our kids were back then.....how the heck did that happen! You are the best and we still miss you after all these years. Have a great 50th year. Love, Susan and Chad Ward
Shel-elly, dear...
I'm looking at all of these fun and fabulous pictures of the girl-that-never-changes and I'm thinking of the one image that is indelibly imprinted in my mind's eye. (Where were cell phone cameras in those days?) We were sitting in RS (yes - you have been there once or twice before!) one glorious Sunday morning and I looked down to see your beautiful, gentle, tanned hand with its finger being clutched by Seth's tiny, newborn hand. He had such a grip on you and I thought how grateful I was for friends in whose hands I can trust my children. You cared for him through Primary, you've always smiled with, encouraged and cared for our others and now you are taking extra care of Ferd and Megan and loving them and helping to keep him healthy.
May your never-ending fountain of youth, and gentle and sincere testimony continue to inspire us for years to come and may this be the happiest of birthdays. We love you and yours and are thankful that we know you!
Love, Janice and the Rampton Clan

Dear Mrs.Tingley!

My Dear Friend Shelly Tingley!
What to say to you on your special day! Well Little Missy, thank you for being such a dear, sweet friend to me over the years. Every time I see you, my heart smiles! You are truly the young and beautiful Shelly!
Shel, you are the calm in the storm, the tender voice in the dark, the light on the long journey, and the brightness at the end of the road. We have worked together, yet seldom at the same time, we have served together, laughed a lot, and you have helped me through frustration and been there in my joy!
You are blessed with such a wonderful family and many loyal friends...
and that is the best and greatest blessing that one can achieve in this world!
You always have my back, and I love you madly! You are the best!
So, here's to Shelly at 50! It is a very good year!
Onward and forward for the next 50 years of adventure!
Happy, Happy Birthday Friend!
All Our Love!
Gretta (Greeta to you!) & of course the better half-The Philster

A long way to go to 100

Shelly- With your life now a third over it is hard to believe that you look like you did in high school. You have the Hansen “for every young" gene. When I grow up I want to be like my big sister. I am sorry I will not be there on your big day, but I will be thinking of you. I don’t know about you but I find it hard to believe that we are now the age of Mom and Dad when we were getting married and going to collage. Are you the age Mom was when she wore the bumble bee sweats? They were younger than I thought they where. You are a great example, I hope your kids understand and appreciate what a great mom they have. Have a great B-day. Love you, your little brother Steve (Ernie)

FABULOUS FIFTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Shelly,
Happy Birthday! Welcome to my club. You look terrific. You are a FABULOUS FIFTY!!!! I remember the first time we played tennis together. It was 19 years ago. I was pregnant with Sadie. We had fun then and we've had lots of fun times throughout the years... lots and lots of tennis, eating, diet cokes, golfing, hiking, biking, eating, diet cokes, skiing, shopping, traveling (do you remember the time you got off the airplane in California and OOPS!!!!), eating, diet cokes, working out, and lots and lots of laughing! You are such a great friend, Madame President, and have always been super SHARP!!! You've been blessed with a sunny, optimistic, cheerful personality, and I've been lucky enough to be your friend. Have a great day! Love, (even though we don't like that score), Your older, wiser, more mature (ha, ha, ha) friend, Margy

Finally 50

We are sure glad to be counted as your friends. You always seem to have an upbeat approach to life and it is infectious. I appreciate that I always get a hug when I see you. Thanks for all of your contributions to our lives. We love you.

OLDER Big Sister

I am sure glad that Shelly is my OLDER sister!!! 50 years old. Wow, I can't even imagine being that old!!!

I thought it would be fun to see some pictures of Shelly when she was young and not looking like an "old boot."

Shelly has always been a fashion Queen. Look at her "Ski Bunny" outfit. Oh those aren't bunny ears those are her goggles. You can imagine that scarf fluttering behind her as she swooshed down the hill. It was hard to keep up with her on those state-of-the-art skis and leather boots.

Now here Shelly is showing off the latest fashion at Jenny Lake. She hasn't changed at all. Note Petite Donner (r is silent in French I have been told) and Ernie in the foreground. Hi Mom, we miss you.

Who is that YOUNG Stud in the cool tux?? Nice Top Hat, huh? Shelly and TL were my fashion guides. Oh we were supposed to be looking at Shelly?? Nice curls.

See it is true. After all the jabs about being old and 50, you haven't aged a bit. We are all jealous. (Who is that with a full head of hair in the background?)

Happy birthday Charley!!

The Kent Hansen Family Loves You!!

Happy Birthday Shelly!

Shelly,

We just wanted to drop a quick note and wish you happy birthday for your 50th. When Tony told us that it was your 50th, we were shocked. We had always figured that you were our age and couldn't figure out why your kids were so old. We hope you have a wonderful birthday. We really appreciate you raising a riding buddy for Dave.

Love,

Dave and Michelle McConkie

Sister Tingey

"Sister" because we are Sisters from good old Parley's Fourth Ward, but mostly camping sisters. When I think of you, I think of the many great times we have had camping together with the YW of P4 and the Parley's Stake. I have loved watching you stress out when they call you to do big jobs and then you say "they have called the wrong person," except for the fact that you always do an amazing job. So, we can conclude that you were wrong and they were inspied. We are the old ladies at church now. That is super creepy. How did we get there? Stick around for another 30 so I have someone to sit with in RS. We can fight over who gets to hold the babies on the back row. May the next 30 years be the best years of your life.

Love,

JoDee Baird

Happy Birthday Dolly

Dear Shelly, I have known you for a long time and you have always been one of my favorite people. It's hard to believe you are 50 when you still look 25. You are so much fun to be with but you have a true and great spiritual side to you as well. You are an optimist and a great example. I am so thankful you said "yes", especially right in the middle of Girl's Camp. I hope you know how much I love you. No one could wear the "Dolly Deer" shirt like you can. Happy Birthday! I hope you have 50 more. Love, Cathy [also know as Potgut Pete]

The Big 5-0!

Dear Shelly,
What an amazing lady you are. Thanks for all the fun playing tennis. I've been so glad you invited me to play all those years ago. We usually have a good game and some good laughs. I also love golfing with you, I've even found myself using your "meow" when my putts come up short. Lastly, we had a great adventure in Primary. I'd always volunteer if you were in charge. Thanks for being such a great friend. You truly make 50 look great.
Love Ya, Nancy

Happy Birthday Shell-Bell-Bosom-buddy

Shelly Hansen Tingey

Well, Happy 50th Birthday to Shelly. So happy to have you finally join the rest of us 50 year olds!

The first time I met Shelly was in a parking lot at the stake center and we were all getting ready to load a bus for youth conference. I had just moved into the Parleys Stake and was really nervous about starting as a sophomore at Highland High. Shelly and Kathryn Kump were so cute and funny and we became friends instantly. I was so excited to start school after that youth conference.

Shelly and I have had many great times together but one of the most memorable times was our stint together as prep cooks at Kentucky Fried Chicken in sugarhouse. For some reason all of our friends got hired on as take out girls, or waitresses and hostesses in the restaurant and take out side of KFC. But, Shelly and I got stuck in the back as prep cooks. I had this idea that if I was the best prep cook in the world that I would advance through the ranks of the KFC world and make it out of the kitchen to a more visible position. I think Shelly had these same thoughts too. When the manager came back one day and we asked him if this was true. He said, “Oh, no. You guys are the best prep cooks I’ve ever had. I would never move you out of the back”. We were so baffled. He also said “and…..if the two of you work really hard then one day you could be a manager of a KFC too, just like me”.

I think that sealed the deal right then and there for me and Shelly. We knew we had to QUIT. As I remember, Shelly’s family was headed to Lake Powell and so she needed to quit and I decided to look for another place to work. We had always been told that if we ever ate the strawberries that we used to for the strawberry pies that we would have to pay .25 cents per strawberry. I remember on our last day of work that we each ate a handful of strawberries right in front of the manager. He about had a heart attack.

The chicken boys were always trying to get me and Shelly locked in the big freezer with them too so it made our shift very exciting. I remember that we had to lift big huge, hot pans of fried chicken and hot rolls onto this high, high, cart above our heads and we were always burning our cleavage area because the trays would fall back onto our chests. We spent a lot of time slipping on cole slaw sauce and getting yelled out for going to put hot rolls into the serving bins with our bloody, chicken, aprons on. But, we had good times laughing and it took months to finally not smell like grease.

Oh, by the way, Crystal actually went on a date with one of the “chicken boys” because he saw her drop a pan of chicken onto the floor and put it back on the pan. He told her he would tell the manager, if she didn’t go out with him. So she did! He was “Asian chicken boy”.

Anyway, I love my shell bell. We have traded clothes, gone cliff jumping together, chased boys, cruised the skyline area, cried at basketball games together, spied on boys, and much much more. Shelly has always been a shining example to me of a beautiful daughter of our heavenly father’s and I am proud to call her my friend.

Love,
Shauna
My dear friend Shelly,

Wow, 50, wow!!!! I always remember our ages by the way we score our tennis game scores. I remember when the number 3 was in front, then the number 4 and now the dreaded 5. Oh well, Margy makes it look good and so will you!!!!

What do I think of when I think of Shelly Tingey? SHARP comes to mind. SHARP like a tack. That's Shelly.

So many fun times have been spent with you. One comes to mind in the Adidas store in California. Do you remember? Help, get me out of here, But, I couldn't get out. They still remember us when we come in.

Love ya, Shelly. I am right behind you so make 50 look fun so I won't hate it so bad.

Let's have another 40 years of fun and memories. I would like nothing more.

Happy Birthday!!!!
Nata
SHELLY--

If I were a blog-photo-genius, I would include a little cutie I have of you from the infamous white photo album I brought to Brighton. I could do this because YOURS is a face that is NOT scratched out in my memory book-- nor in my heart. Speaking of hearts, I could also include the photo from the yearbook of the anonymous Valentine messenger-- who was that BIG HEART-HEADED messenger anyway?-- Shelly or Gail, I'll never tell. Adorable Shelly. We have scratched out a fond friendship over many years, beginning as Hillside Hornets we added (and tolerated the tall tales of) East High Leopards through our husbands' mutual friends. But my favorite Shelly-ism has to be this:

When high school friends gathered recently and shared the sum of events and accomplishments in their lives (and there were many), Shelly humbly related what one of her boys said of her when he was very little.
My mom, he said, "plays tennis and takes naps." *APPLAUSE*

So aptly put. What more could you ever want to BE in life than the FUN, LOVING, SELF-EFFACING person that IS Shelly? Untouchable in the most worthy respects, you are the most approachable woman I know.

Darling friend, welcome to the old hags club. You make it look GOOD.

Love,

Gail

It's about time you grew up...

Dear Shell-Bell-Tell-Smell,

Were Sydney and I there when you married T? I don't think so - I would have remembered the refreshments. I may have missed your wedding out of spite, because I always assumed that I would marry Tony. But the Church was so straight-laced back then, and I doubt I could have had a close relationship with Margaret and Ralph after all the mimicking I had engaged in through the years. So, go ahead and aim for a Golden Wedding anniversary - you won him fair and square, and I leave him to you.

Thanks for being part of his team. You've both done wonders for us. We haven't done many things together, but the things we've done have been high-impact and a great help. Happy 50th and welcome to the mature side of the century mark - how about coming to Alpine for a slumber party? We'll go soap some windows and toilet-paper some houses...

David & Sydney Haglund

You make 50 look so good!

Shelly,
Happy Birthday wishes to a friend that goes way back. It seems that originally we came together by sharing the same close friends, yet I was always impressed in high school with all the ways you were involved and all the boys that had serious interest in YOU! We shared many common experiences and friends in high school but my best memories with you have been in the years after high school when we have gathered as friends and shared a week-end skiing in Park City, biking across the Wasatch Crest trail, skiing in Colorado after a harrowing drive up I-70 and recently our fabulous week-end with friends in Brighton. Two glorious days skiing together was a rare gift and I felt like we were all about 15. I have loved reconnecting with you at this stage of life and sharing life's ups and downs and your unlimited sense of adventure. You have aged better than anyone I know and I am so honored to be a friend from your childhood.
Looking forward to staying connected all the way until the end of our days.

"Life gives us brief moments with another, but sometimes in those brief moments we get memories that last a lifetime!"

Love,

Happy Birthday!

Auntie Shelly! Happy Birthday!

I can't believe how lucky we (us kids) have been to grow up together with such fun adventurous parents. Thank you for always keeping things interesting, being there for my mom when we are driving her crazy, and for giving us the best childhood in the world. Our countless adventures are just the beginning and I can't wait for the many more to come!
I love you Shelly, thank you for being such a great Aunt and friend.

All My Love...Dad

August 19, 2009

Dearest Shelly,

Can it really be 50 years since I was looking through a window at the newborns and the man next to me pointed to the prettiest baby in the room and said, “Oh, look at that cute Indian baby.” This very proud Father quickly replied, “That’s no Indian baby, that’s MINE.” You have made me continually proud ever since. Thank You!

In addition to all that we share there has always been that silent, mysterious connection between us that made it awkward for me to even look at you from the pulpit without forming tears. I’m doing the same as I write this and reach for a kleenex. I’m sure it has something to do with love.

Love you Lots,

Dad

Finally......

Thank you for Thursdays, raising my kids, being my best friend, interceding with Kent, stealing my liscense getting in an accident and giving the cops my ID, going on vacations, sneaking out of the house, listening to my stupid gripes, hangining out at the tennis club for 46 years, golfing, tennising, skiing, water skiing, embarrassing me, encouraging me, mourning with me, celebrating with me, and most of all being the best sister in the whole world!!!!! What more can be said!
